-  For schools/SAUs that perform enrollment updates via UPLOAD, any nighttime residence identifications that are entered via direct entry will be overwritten with the next upload.  For this year, it is recommended that these schools/districts keep the students as “99: Homeless” for now, and send an Excel file (see below) indicating each homeless student’s nighttime residence code to the Department at the end of the school year.

You will find the Excel template for reporting this information at:  http://www.maine.gov/education/homeless0809.xls  Once completed, this file should be sent to Charlotte Ellis (charlotte.ellis@maine.gov).

-  For schools/SAUs that perform updates via DIRECT ENTRY (and do not do any uploads), no action is necessary at this time – simply choose the appropriate option from the “Homeless Night-time Residence” menu.

>>NOTE:  Any student who is homeless for any length of time during the school year should retain the Homeless Night-time Residence for the ENTIRE school year.  Even if the student regains residency at some point, the Homeless Night-time Residency code should remain selected.

If you have questions regarding the specifics in identifying a night-time residence for homeless students, please contact Shelley Reed, shelley.reed@maine.gov, 624-6637.

If you have questions regarding reporting this data in Infinite Campus, please contact the MEDMS Helpdesk, medms.helpdesk@maine.gov, 624-6896.
